85th Ghana Open Launched

The 85th edition of Ghana Open golf competition has been launched in Tema clourfully, this writer can confirm.

The two-day stroke event has been scheduled for September 21 and 22 at the Tema Coutry Golf Club.

Originally, the competition was designed for just Group A competitors, but after a countrywide search, it emerged that the numbers were not encouraging.

As a result, officials of Ghana Golf Association (GGA) led by Mr Mike Aggrey (President) have included ladies and men categories B as well as the juniors and seniors categories.

The various Groups will play on handicaps -men’s Group A (0-12), B (15-24), Ladies Group A (0-19) and ladies Group B (20-27)

Addressing the press conference yesterday, the GGA boss said “ It is the GGA’s flagship event and we are committed to delivering a top notch event. All is set for the event.”

GGA’s Honorary Secretary Akwasi Poku urged corporate Ghana to come on board the potential of growing their brands by associating with the biggest event on the country’s golfing calendar.

Tema Country Golf Club captain, Joseph Nettey, in like manner urged corporate Ghana to support the event. He gave assurance that work on the T-Boxes are completed and he is expecting a great tourney.

Preceding the event is the pros competition which is expected to tee-off from September 19 to 22, all being equal.

Gold Fields Ghana is the headline sponsor with support from Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited and Innovative Manufacturing Group.
