Agric Engineer and CEO of CTA Engineering, Mr. Kwame Amoakohene, has re-echoed the importance that Agric mechanization plays in today’s farming business. According to him, it is about time that farmers switched to the use of these modern trends of farming because sticking to the old traditional ways of farming exposes farmers to the risk of premature aging.
Mr. Amoakohene made the remarks when he appeared as guest on Rite FM’s Agrotech show with Edwin Larbi. According to him, a lot of farmers stood the risk of aging faster before their time if they continued to engage in the ‘cutlass and hoe’ method of farming which effects include the inability to work for longer hours. This, he added explains the need for farmers to adopt modern trends of farming which includes mechanized farming:
“We need to bring machineries which will make our work easier. Machines make our work portable, efficient, faster and easier and also enhance productivity. Therefore the machines can plough the land faster than hiring labourers,” Mr. Amoakohene stressed. “You can also plant a lot of crops on an acre of land. It improves the productivity of small scale farms through appropriate machineries,” he added.
According to him, small scale farming and mechanization requires proper selection of machines based on the farm size because bigger farms require bigger machines while small farms will also need small machines.
The agric engineer also advised that it is appropriate for farmers to observe the cropping calendar which guides farmers on the types of crops to cultivate for a particular season. This, he added would guide them in their land preparation, planting, plant protection, harvesting, etc.
Mr. Amoakohene therefore advised all the small scale farmers to observe their crop calendar which will determine whether to go for machineries or laborers.
