The sudden death of former Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, on Friday is eliciting a plethora of tributes from statesmen and dignitaries across the country.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur is reported to have collapsed at the Air Force Gym early Friday and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
President Nana Akufo-Addo posted on Facebook to express shock at the news.
Former President John Dramani Mahama also expressed shock at the death of his former assistant.
In a Tweet Friday morning, Mr Mahama wrote, “Shocking! No! PK was only last Saturday actively involved in our party’s constituency elections in the Central Region. Very sad Friday!”
Head of the Economics Department of the University of Ghana, Prof Peter Quartey, said his memories of the late Vice President dates back to 2013 during the Senchi Forum.
“We had a good time together discussing issues. Early this year, he came to my office. He said he is writing a book on Ghana’s economy. So we discussed at length…The [Economics] Department has had very great interaction with him. He used to be a former colleague and it’s such a shocking news for all of us. My condolences to the family and to all his friends and associates,” he said.
Mr Amissah-Arthur’s wife, Matilda Amissah-Arthur, just two days ago launched her own book, “The Wife of the Vice President: My Journey.”
Current Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr Amissah-Arthur “was always civil and can be described as a first-class gentleman.”
First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo says Amissah-Arthur’s sudden demise is a big blow to Ghana.
