Asokore Mampong MCE rejects gun

The Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Alidu Seidu says he has no interest using the gun handed over to him by his predecessor for protection after his application to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for a personal police guard had been granted.

The said gun, he noted, is currently lying in the offices of the Assembly, with management yet to take a decision over it.

A report of the Auditor-General on the Management and Utilization of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund and other Statutory Funds (DACF) for the year ending December 31, 2015, revealed that the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly bought two pump action guns valued at GH?9,100.00 from the main DACF and MP’s Common Fund accounts for the personal use and protection of the former MCE, Nurideen Hamidan and the honourable MP for the Asawase constituency, Mohammed Mubarak-Muntaka

What is more worrying, the report noted, was the fact that the two pump action guns were registered in the names of Hon. Mubarak-Muntaka and the former MCE, Hamidan.

The Auditor-General concerned about this mishap, has directed the Assembly to immediately take steps to register the two guns in the name of the Assembly since they are now assets of the Assembly.

Interacting with Akwasi Nsiah on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.5 FM over the issue, Wednesday, Alhaji Seidu said had it not been the report of the Auditor-General, he had no knowledge of the quantum of money used to buy the two guns.

He said even though the gun which was in the possession of the former MCE has been handed over to him, he will not use it for his personal protection since he has a body guard.

Nevertheless, he said he will meet with management to take a decision over the said as to whether to sell it or keep it.
