Covid-19: Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly With Support From MP, etal, Disburse Veronica Buckets, Sanitizers, etc To 68 Institutions and Communities

With the inevitable increase in coronavirus even as the globe battles the novel pandemic, Abuakwa south municipal Assembly in the eastern region also gears up, puts measures in place to arrest this deadly pandemic.

In accordance with the president’s directive to enhance the hygiene protocols to help arrest the disease, the assembly led by the municipal chief executive, MCE, Hon, Kojo Ofori-Safo, on thursday April 2 2020, disbursed hygiene protocol supplies to 68 institutions and electoral areas in the municipality.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Kojo Ofori-Safo acknowledged the efforts by the president of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to control the disease in the country not forgetting the massive support and contribution from the member of parliament Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea and Pinamaa foundation (NGO) especially in times like this to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Abuakwa South.

The items distributed include veronica buckets, Gallons of hand sanitizers, Disposable Hand towels(tissue papers), Gallons of liquid soaps, etc depending on the size of the community and patronage of the institution.

He used the opportunity to urge and appeal to residents in the municipality to as a matter of fact, ensure and go by the directives of the president even as no case of the pandemic is recorded in the municipality. He reiterated on the need to use hand sanitizers as often as possible, washing of hands with soap under running water, observing social distance, compliance of social gathering directives etc in order to remain safe, stay healthy and fight coronavirus away.

Samuel Atta Akyea, the MP of the constituency, Pinamaa foundation (wife of the MP’s foundation), Kibi Goldfields Limited, Ministry of Local Government and rural development and the Abuakwa south municipal Assembly.

Again, Hon. Kojo ofori Safo added that the municipal per directive of the ministry of local government and rural development will on saturday April 4 fumigate four markets in the municipal.

SITUATION UPDATE, CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN GHANA AS AT 02 APRIL 2020, 14:00HRS

Since the last situational update, Ghana has confirmed nine additional COVID-19 cases, all from Greater Accra region. Four (4) of them have no history of travel nor contact with any confirmed case. Other four (4) have no travel history but are contacts of confirmed cases in Ghana; and one travelled to Ghana from Benin within the past 14 days.

As at 2 nd April 2020, Ghana has recorded 204 cases COVID-19 with five (5) deaths. The number of regions reporting cases remain five (5) (Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Upper West and Eastern). The Greater Accra Region has most of the cases (183) followed by the Northern Region (10), Ashanti Region (9), Upper West Region (1) and Eastern Region (1).

Most of the cases are reported from routine / enhanced surveillance activities. Cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine remain 89.

All five (5) deaths had underlying chronic medical conditions prior to COVID-19 infection
