A Senior Research Scientist from the Council of Scientific Research Institute (CSIR), Dr. Richard Ampadu Ameyaw, has advised farmers, Extension Officers and the general Public  to close their ears to the numerous Misconceptions surrounding the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) and treat them as mere stories which do not hold water.

Dr Ameyaw who doubles as the coordinator for ‘Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology’ OFAB, a non-governmental organization aimed at sensitizing the general public the need to adopt GMO Foods.

It will be recalled that the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party, NPP, came under constant public ridicule when the government decided to adopt the GMO.

He went on to add that the crops are engineered to withstand the direct application of herbicides and/or insecticides to ensure consistency in crop yield.

According to Dr Richard Ameyaw, GMO is to enable the country have access to food in the full year and thereby reducing cost of food. He said it is based on this same technology that period of productivity for some perinniel and annual crops such as cocoa, orange, etc shotened to a maximum of 3 years after cultivation.

He reiterated that the many speculations aimed at inciting others to reject GMO are unacceptable, and must not be condoned. In the case of GMO’s give cancer, makes one impotent among others, he cleared the air that never has any case of such reported in the globe and interested persons can log on to World Health Organisation’s website, the custodians of the world’s health.

He finally entreated the public to treat those stories as nuisance, just attempt administered for one’s parochial interest.
