E/R: Few Hours Rainstorm Rips Off Girls Dormitory At St Stephens Senior High Technical School, Asiakwa

Tuesday evening 23rd April 2019 was a very sad day for students and teachers of St Stephens Presbyterian Senior High Technical School in Asiakwa in the Abuakwa south municipality, E/R, as few hours of rainstorm ripped off the girls dormitory of the school.

The uncompleted school block that has been converted into dormitory could not withstand rainstorm and had the roof taken off, and part of the building collapsed to injure 3 students.

Upon a visit to the school, Radio 1 News found out that the only senior High school in Asiakwa lacks facilities because there were about 90 beds in the one classroom converted into dormitory and one could imagine how congested the students would be.

Plywoods are used to seal the uncompleted area of the building, inside of the room is plastered let alone, to be painted and it is very sad since about 120 female students use that single room.

Back to the rip off, the students were lucky the rain started when they were at the dining hall and not a majority of them being in the dormitory at the time the house was ripped off. Unfortunately, 3 students sustained injuries and are receiving health care at Asiakwa health Center.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Anaafi Asante confirmed they lack facilities, both classroom and dormitories and appealed to the general public, government, old student, NGOs and other cooperate institutions to come to their aid to help solve their numerous problems.

Some of the students particularly Home Economics students, also revealed that their practical equipments were damaged even as they need them before Saturday for their WASSCE exams.

Among other complains were canteen, bus, health care delivery and no teachers bungalows.
