GHANAIAN’S WHO TRAVEL OUTSIDE GHANA OBSERVE SANITATION LAWS AND SHOW DISCIPLINE – HON. MICHAEL OLOGO

In a response to the way forward to end the sanitation challenges of the country, Mr. Michael Ologo, Parliamentary hopeful for NDC in the Yilo Krobo Municipality has said it is always possible only when the mindsets of the citizens change.

He told Krobea Asante, executive Coordinator for Drink Safe Water Group that, even though it is seemingly difficult for Ghanaian’s to put up acceptable behaviors in the country, he is surprised same people travel abroad and observe rules pertaining to environmental protection and pollution.

The statements follows a promise made by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo on 13th of November, 2017 to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, which the groups Coordinator fears will be a talk show.

According to Mr. Krobea Asante, if the President and the sector Minister, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda do not put stringent measures, the talk will not be walked and may remain a mirage as the attitude of most Ghanaian’s seem to set a reproach to the vision of the President of the Republic of Ghana.

Since yesterday, the group’s Coordinator has been responding and engaging the media on what he says is feared to befall the President having reiterated his commitment to make Accra cleanest city in Africa.

Today, Mr. Krobea Asante Tofepa Ntomentwene, who is also a former morning show host at Rite FM, a local based Agric radio station in Somanya said, the President has spoken well, called for Ghanaian’s to make everyday a sanitation day, but sorry to say he may be referred a liar by the 53 countries who make up the African continent.

He mentioned that, the 5 regions that make up Africa have taken note of the remarks and await to see the state of Accra sooner.

Mr. Krobea Asante mentioned South Africa, North Africa, Eastern Africa, Central and Western Africa as member counties awaiting to see this promise.

He told Mr. Ologo that, if same people who travel behave well outside the country, but will have no respect here, then discipline is just the way forward to end indiscriminate waste disposal and open – defecation.

In a development, Mr. Godfred Ceasar, School Health Education Programme Coordinator in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality added explaining to members of DSW GROUP the statements below.

“Many Ghanaians litter here in Ghana but when they travel to developed countries they dare not litter”

What’s the difference? why is indiscriminate littering so abundant in Ghana and so rare elsewhere?

Enforcement of the laws. “We have so many laws, but enforcement of the laws is our problem”, he noted

Out there, the law is clear and even if Ure a minister and u flout any rules, you will be dealt with.

Peoples attitudes change in response to laws that are enforced.

“Let’s enforce our laws. If the law bites hard enough, the attitudes will change”, he stressed.
