The member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo constituency who doubles as a member of the parliamentary select committee on legal affairs, Hon. Lawyer Kofi Amoatey, has waded into the controversies of the ministry under which RTI must operate and he believes it will be appropriate if RTI operates from the Attorney General’s department and not the ministry of information.
He argued that there is a right and law enforcement clauses and for that matter must operate from the office of the Attorney General.
He made these revelations to Owuraku Asamoah on Radio 1FM’s political show; Bekyerem on thursday 28th March 2019 when the host Owuraku Asamoah asked of his opinion as to whose jurisdiction the RTI must operate in a phone interview.
The private legal practitioner explicitly acknowledged the fact that though RTI is an information acessment bill but would be rightly operated under the Attorney General.
Right To Information bill is one of the oldest bills if not the oldest bill been at Parliament and thankful for some, it has been passed waiting the assent of the president to be a law. This law will give every citizen above 18 years the mandate to request for information especially from the state institutions without any hindrances.
While some are jubilating for it’s passage, other group of journalists are unhappy perhaps some clauses within the bill may hinder accessing information.
