Captain Retired Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, a Private legal practioner and member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP has waded into the KNUST riot saying both the Council Board and SRC goofed, arguing that they could have used better approaches to solving uproar than the demonstration.
According to Lawyer Nkrabea Dartey, the root cause is the conversion of Katanga from all Male Hall to Mixed Hall. This didn’t go down well with the students and as aggrieved as they are; petitioned the authorities involved to help address the mess but never yielded any positive results.
Speaking on the Susubiribi Morning Show on Tuesday 30th October, 2018, the private legal practitioner said he speaks as a parent who has a ward at the school and also a legal Practitioner, inability to resolve the challenges between the two parties amicably resulted in this riot.
However, he was quick to add that two wrongs do not make right.
This historical impasse has left many state properties and private ones destroyed beyond repairs and also halting academics on KNUST campus.
