Lives of Residents At B3tom In Asiakwa In The East Akyem District In Distress

B3tom is a farming community in the East Akyem district and is being separated from Asiakwa by river ‘Twafour’ as residents live in fear since the only bridge that links the market women to the farm gate is in its deplorable state.

Residents lamented, crossing to either side has become a major problem especially during the raining season and their major fear is their kids who have to cross the hundred-meter bridge on daily basis to school.

A resident Agnes Lawer lamented on the situation, “you have seen nothing, the situation gets worse than this and with some woods broken off we still have to cross carrying our goods on our head, not only that but our children as young as two years old have to take the risk of crossing daily to school”.

According to the assembly man of the area, the contract have been given to a company he couldn’t disclose but work have been put to halt due to unknown reasons. “I have been trying my best as an assembly man since I took over but it’s still not yielding any result for my people. I organize communal labor from time to time with the youth risking their lives to clear very thick weeds from the river and rebuilding the wooden bridge. Sometimes soliciting for funds to buy materials to renovate the bridge becomes a major problem for us”.

They are therefore pleading with authorities and NGOs to come to their aid now before they get into the raining season and the situation gets out of hand.
