Our Security System is Very Weak – Political Science Lecturer

A political Science lecturer of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Abass Mohammed has said the weakness of our security agencies is the main cause of creating of this vigilante group by our political parties which is now turning to be a great problem for the country.

Dr. Abass made this known to Radio1fm 100.7 Susubiribi morning show on Monday November 5, 2018. When the host Captain Kofi Wusu ask of this opinion on vigilante Group that is emerging in the country.

According to Dr Abass, the inability of the security agencies particularly the police service to provide security to our politicians is the major reason the parties form this vigilante groups especially when in opposition.

He said due to the fact that important appointments like the IGP is done by the government which makes them not solely independent.

Dr. Abass believes that because of that the police is been controlled by his Political Employers which make the opposition Parties  lose trust in them thereby leading to the creation of vigilante groups for  private security.

However, he said the weakness of the security is the major factor so in order to deal with the vigilante groups, we first have to strengthen our agencies which is the half of the problem.
