The Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT have given one week ultimatum to the Ghana Education Service to re- instate the two sacked and nine interdicted Headmasters of Senior High Schools over the alleged allegations of collecting unapproved fees from parents under the Free SHS policy.
According to GNAT, the decision by the Ghana Education Service GES for sacking and interdicting the Headmasters involved in the alleged allegations, violet the law regarding the Education system.
With regards to the one of the Headmasters sacked at the Pentecost Senior Secondary School PENSEC, the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT said, the District Educational Service at Koforidua could have first investigate the issues before it reaches the National Council but that was not done.
Speaking on Radio 1 Breakfast Show, ”Susubribi” with host Captain Kofi Owusu, the General Secretary of GNAT, Mr. David Ofori Acheampong said, since the decision by the Ghana Education Service, there haven’t been any concrete charges against them and up to date the Education Service has not come out to say anything about the issue.
According to him, the Association has given a 1week ultimatum to the Ghana Education Service GES to re- instate the accused and suspected Headmasters at the various schools or the will embark on demonstration.
”We are given the GES 1 week ultimatum to re- instate the Headmasters at the various schools or we will embark on demonstration, how can you just sack someone who have work in the education industry for more than 35years just like that, ‘why are we in Korea?’ he questioned.
Meanwhile, Mr. David Acheampong added that, the Association disagree with the directive by the Ghana Education Service GES that, Heads of various schools should make sure they admit the number of students posted, ‘whether they can accommodate them or not.’
”We disagree with the directive by GES for heads to forcibly admit students posted to their institutions whether can accommodate them or not.” he stated.
