Reduce Prices Of Tractors – Best Farmer Pleads

Shai Osudoku’s 2016 best farmer, Mr. James Azaah has made a passionate appeal to the government to take a bold step to subsidize the prices of tractors acquired by farmers. Mr. Azanu who was speaking to Rite news on the back of his recognition as the district’s best farmer on Friday noted that affordable tractors would encourage more farmers to acquire the machinery to enhance the production of agric produce in the country.
The best farmer who also called for the reduction in the prices of fertilizer argued that this would encourage more people to venture into farming.
The 65-year-old James Azanu Apaah, adjudged Shai Osudoku’s most prestigious and most revered farmer for the year rode home a tricycle with a carrier to aid the conveyance of his farm produce from the farm to the market centers. Mr. also received a pair of wellington boots, a cutlass and a battery operated spraying machine to help in his farming activities.
Mr. Azanu married to four wives and 22 children is a crop and livestock farmer with 1200 cattle, 90 sheep, 25 goats, 20 turkeys, 50 Guinea Fowls, 120 fowls and 20 pigs. He also has four permanent workers as well as 25 partial labourers who assist him to run his farming activities together with his children.
A driver by profession who also commands fifty years’ experience in farming, James Azanu cultivates 50 acres of pepper, 30 acres of tomatoes and 50 acres of cassava.
Accepting his award, the overall best district best farmer, confessed that farming was a difficult venture but rewarding and beneficial nevertheless.
In an interview with Rite news, he expressed his appreciation to the district assembly for the honour bestowed on him despite his conviction that the honour was long overdue.
