Aspiring parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, Miss Linda Ocloo has given her greatest assurance yet that due attention shall be given the agric sector under her tenure as Member of Parliament. This is in the event that she succeeds in her bid to succeed incumbent Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, honourable Tetteh Assuming in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Miss Ocloo who was acknowledging the contributions of the country’s hardworking farmers on Friday during the 2016 Farmers’ Day celebrations at Volivo near Asutsuare in the Shai Osudoku district of the Greater Accra Region was confident that the creation of dams was a giant step towards boosting agricultural production in her constituency.
‘We shall identify possibly areas in our communities for the construction of dams for all year round farming. The dams will also help solve the water needs of our cattle in the district,’ madam Ocloo assured.
Miss Linda Ocloo who compared her possible parliamentary duties to a woman’s support for her home promised to encourage the formation of small and big scale groups into co-operative societies to boost crop and fish production.
Aside subsiding tractor services and other agriculture inputs, the parliamentary aspirant also made a strong case for the youth in her constituency. ‘We shall encourage and support the youth to venture into farming. We shall create ready market for farmers as well as market centers at vintage places within the district,’ Miss Ocloo assured.
She thanked the nation’s farmers who through major and minor season make sure crop and fish farming are upheld. She also believed that it was time for all professions: teachers, lawyers, engineers, doctors, and all who have nothing to do with tilling the land to come together and salute farmers.
She acknowledged the contributions of successive governments to the agric sector over the years including the mechanized farm inputs that the NDC government is giving out to most farmers to help them in all year round farming to support national food security.
Madam Ocloo also praised the president, John Dramani Mahama’s initiatives to set up farm service centers all across the country, noting that it would ensure that farmers get easy and quick access to tractors and other agriculture inputs such as fertilizers, seeds, agrochemicals and even agric experts who will be giving assistance to our farmers.
