Akyem Pameng Junior High School in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region is likely to turn into “ghetto” if immediate action is not taken to complete an abandoned 10-year uncompleted building.

The school block which was abandoned in 2006 during the earthwhile Kufuor administration is still uncompleted despite several appeals to the various authorities.

The Assembly member for the area, Hon. Antwi Atuah Eugene speaking to Radio1 fm news correspondent Oppong Kyekyeku, said “wee” smokers uses the building as their hideout after school hours because it has no doors and windows whiles the roofing which was undertook by the community has already started tearing apart.

“The school was built in 2006 but has been left uncompleted therefore teachers and pupils find it uncomfortable to concentrate on their activities as most teaching and learning materials as well as lamp holders and sockets have all been stolen”

The Assistant Headmaster of the school, Raphael Adukpo revealed that, the schools’ enrollment has dropped drastically due to the poor state of the school whiles pupils are often bitten by reptiles.

He lamented the school even do not have a chalkboard and also lacks toilet and urinal facilities which is so alarming.

“Several appeal to the Assembly and the Education Office have proved futile so we are calling on NGOs as well as other benevolent organisations to come to our aid” he complained.
