Ghana Should Explore the Importance of Tissue Culture

The General Manager of Invitrolabs Ghana limited, Mr. Daan Luteijn has in an interview with Rite news disclosed the importance of ‘Tissue Culture’ which he explained is one way of multiplying crops into several pieces in the country.
Mr. Daan who was speaking to Rite news explained that Tissue Culture is a way of propagating plants through a modern system. According to him, Tissue Culture has the expertise of multiplying crops, producing several pieces of that crop for farmers desirous of multiplying their crops.
“We put the piece of plant which the farmer brings into a jar with a cover and add all the necessary ingredients and good nutrients the plant needs and wait till the plant starts multiplying. As they multiply, we then cut the growing shoots off the jar and transfer the shoots of the crops into a different jar, adding ingredients and nutrients to it also as it develop new shoots which goes through the same procedure as the other ones so that it will bring forth more crops for planting,’ Mr. Daan explained.

He added that with this, the process can help produce more crops for a farmer within the shortest possible time.
On the background of Tissue Culture in Ghana, the Dutch said Tissue Culture was introduced into Ghana about 10 years ago. He however added that in Ghana however, the company deals only with production compared to Holland which has an analytical laboratory for other services.
He continued further by stating that Tissue Culture is quite expensive and cannot be afforded by peasant farmers but rather by companies who are into commercial farming.
