Disrespect and other related bad manners by doctors and nurses top issues of worry for patients at some health facilities in the three regions of the North.
The survey conducted by the NGO, SEND Ghana revealed that even though most patients who visited health facilities within the four month period of the survey were fairly satisfied with kind of treatment received at the hands of doctors and nurses, insults and other forms of disrespect to patients amounted to the worst forms of abuses.
The findings were released this Wednesday at a news conference where Programs officer for SEND Ghana, Bashiru Mohammed Jumah explained further.
“In terms of clients satisfaction for all the services, nearly 88 percent were satisfied by the services provided by the district hospitals and health centers regarding maternal health services.

“Of the other people 12 percent that was not satisfied, one of the key things that came up has to do with the attitude of the health professionals,” he said.
According to the survey, the patients were not happy with the reception given them by the health professional at the facilities they visited.
“They said they were not listened to, not given the chance to speak freely,” he said emphasising that even with those who said they were satisfied, complained of the attitude of the health professionals.
Mr Jumah said SEND Ghana believes the country must take a hard look at the issue of respect for maternal health where the interest of the client remains supreme in any health services offered to the clients.
Head of monitoring and evaluation at the Health Ministry, Daniel Degbotse explained the Minister will restructure its punitive sanctions towards defaulters to ensure compliance with the patients charter which includes respect
