Workshop To End MAASI Project Held At Somanya

A day’s workshop organized by Rite FM to formally bring to an end the “Mobilizing Action towards Agric Sector Improvement” (MAASI) project has taken place at the Methodist Hall  – Somanya. The workshop among others also sought to access the impact of the 16-month project which core focus was resource allocation to the Department of Agric in the various districts

The project was implemented in six districts including Lower Manya Krobo, Yilo Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo, Asuogyaman and Akuapim North Districts in the Eastern Region as well as Shai Osudoku in the Greater Accra Region, was to stimulate more dialogue among stakeholders notably, the Departments Of Agric, Farmer Based Organizations and Staff of the Central Administration at the various Districts and Municipals.

Miss Rita Ntosu, Pogrammes Manager of  Socio-serve Ghana, whose outfit won the bid to do an evaluation report enumerated some challenges encountered during the implementation of the 16 month project and also outlined some recommendations critical in the planning and implementation of future projects, condemned the failure of projects as soon as donor funding ceases.

She stressed on the need for projects to take into consideration sustainability measures in the running of projects as well as its achievements. This is to ensure that projects are not discontinued in the event that funds are no longer available.

She also touched on one core objective of the project which according to her was to ensure that the departments of Agric, District Assemblies as well as Farmer-Based Organizations are empowered and resources allocated to the department of Agric through the effort of the Agric Sub Committees which was formed by the various Assemblies as one of the achievements of the MAASI project.

Former District Chief-Executive of the Yilo Krobo, Sub Lft  Kofi Tettey who was the chairperson of the occasion gave a promise that he will ensure that the incoming government will implement the recommendations provided by MAASI in support of the effort made by the project to promote the sector in which he is a part of.
