Ghana’s Police have in recent times been criticized for some of their excesses, including disregard for human rights, in the discharge of their duties whilst some personnel have also been arrested and prosecuted for various unprofessional conducts, armed robbery, extortion among other criminal offences.

Speaking on Radio1 morning show, Nana Obiri Boahen said Ghana police are indiscipline. The Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahen, responded to the released of Kofi Adams cars as unprofessionalism in Ghana Police. “They did not questioning anyone, those who came to seize the cars and all those who was involved in the case”, he told the host Osahene Kofi Owusu.

“When I say something I know what I am talking about, because I am a lawyer and this is absurdity of the highest order, I did not see the work of Ghana Police, they did nothing and if they say they have done investigation in this way then it is unprofessional and unethical.

“How can investigation be done without questioning the persons involved, I need a copy of the investigation to convince”, he added.

His anger was based on earlier submission by ASP Joseph Benefo on Radio1 morning show indicating that the Police released the five vehicles belonging to Kofi Adams after investigations revealed that the cars were not state property…We had a duty to investigate who the owner of the cars were and after investigation, we came to the realization that the vehicles do not belong to the state. They belong to Kofi Adams.”

Nana Obiri Boahen went further to compare the police to the military, stating, “soldiers are more discipline and professional than that of Ghana police and Ghanaians respect soldiers than police in Ghana this is as a result of the indiscipline in the sector”,

“If the Soldiers were to handle this case then we will have a better results, they would have investigated properly, and questioning all the people involved

This is not to say I am against the released of the cars, but it about the police being unprofessional”, he concluded.
