Mining is a process whereby some people uses heavy machines to dig  the ground in search for gold. Due to this situation, lands, crops and water bodies like Birim, Densu and others are been destroyed in the Eastern Region.

The Assemblyman of Akyem Mmoso in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region Hon. Kwame Nyarko has express his worries on how mining is affecting them. He said the mining does not help the Distract but rather destroying their properties like farm land, farm crop and water bodies. He said this on our environmental show ‘Yen Saase Yen Daakye’ on Radio 1.

Hon. Nyarko said, since the time this mining started, he wrote to the E P a, former D C E. Hon. Afestu Emmanuel and the District Police Commander at that time, but it seems it fell on deaf ears.

After mining for gold, they leave the pit uncovered and grasses grow on it and death trap for children who fall into it and die.
