The National Democratic Congress [NDC] constituted a 13 – member fact-finding committee chaired by Prof Kwesi Botwe to unravel the cause of the party’s heavy defeat in the 2016 general elections and to redeem the image of the party. The committee in its work has been touring all parts of the country to solicit views from the party faithfuls.

However, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the party [NDC] Mark-Oliver Kevor has described the committee’s modus operandi as insufficient. He is of the opinion that collecting information on the defeat of the party in the last general election from only party members will not help the committee achieve its main objective.

Speaking to Captain Kofi Owusu [the host] on Radio1 Morning Show on Monday, the regional scribe criticized the committee for collecting information from only members who were actively involved in the last elections. “Instead of the committee to go beyond the party and collect information to ascertain the cause of our party’s defeat, their focus is rather on active party members who voted and will forever vote for the party” he explained.

“I have problem with Prof. Kwesi Botwe led committee’s fact finding technique. You want to find out why people did not vote for the party so why do you take views from those who voted for the party only? Are they not collecting information from only one set of people? he quizzed.

Responding to the chaos that has characterized the committee’s sitting, Mr. Kevor stated that since it was active party members most of whom were current or former executive members the committee is soliciting information from, these aggrieved members tend to voice out their personal grievances without tackling the issue holistically and if you follow, there is an emerging monotonic theme.

Mr Kevor further suggested to the committee to adopt proper sampling method and go beyond active members such as the ordinary voter on the street, media practitioners and civil society organizations (CSOs) so that their opinion would be factored into the final analysis.

“The committee should have sampled views from ordinary voters, media practitioners and civil society organizations to get a balanced report instead of resorting to active party members who will be subjective in their submissions” he charged.

According to the regional scribe, without prejudice to the committee’s report as it is now will not in any way tell the whole story of why the party [NDC] lost.
