Church Counselling Is Fake _ Mr. Antwi Boakye

The phenomenon of marriage counselling  has been the only source of marriage remedy for a happy marriage in the thought of many Christians and has also been the process couple go through before entering into marriage.

But the question is, why the increasing rate of divorce in the country  after couples have gone through all the necessary process of counselling before tighten the knot?

A counselor in the Fanteakwa District  of the Eastern region, Mr. Antwi Boakye  Frank in responds to this, described the situation as unfortunate but blamed pastors and churches practicing counselling for been responsible.

According to him most churches  counselling are fake and been the cause of divorce in the country, he said, counselling someone is not just an easy job as some pastors and churches have taken it. He said, counselling has to do with a well trained counselors with degree and diploma , but not in a church or an individual pastor counselling , that can be classified as an advised.

”Most of the pastors are not well trained to be counselors neither will they been to counselling school, the Bible knowledge too can never relate or consider as counselling, a counselor must be well trained, what goes on in churches or done by individual pastors are an advise but not a proper counselling”. he stressed.

Counselling is the type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings in a confidential  and dependable environment .

Counsellors help people to explore feelings and emotions that are often related to their experiences. This allows clients to reflect on what is happening to them and consider alternative ways of doing things. The aim is to reduce a clients  confusion and enable them to cope with challenges or to make possible changes  in their life where necessary.

Counsellors do not give advice, but help clients to make their own choices within the framework of an agreed counselling contract.

But in the view of Mr. Boakye Frank, in an interview with Radio 1 news correspondent  Nana Kwabena Addo, the counselling done by churches or pastors when it time for couples to  tight the knot are fake, because most pastors are not trained to be counselors  and the Bible knowledge too cannot relate to as counselling. According to him, what goes on in churches or done by some pastors as counselling are not but rather an advised.
