The Judicial Press Corps has resolved to petition the Chief Justice over a case involving some journalists who were Thursday walked  out of a court during hearing into the murder of late MP for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.

According to members of the Press Corps, they are scandalized by the action of the Magistrate presiding over the matter.

The Accra Central District Court judge, Arit Nsemoh, Thursday June 15, angrily sacked some 10 journalists from entering the court to cover the case of Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Dondon and Vincent Bossu aka Jnr Agogo, who are standing trial for allegedly murdering the MP.

Dean of the Press Corps, Wilberforce Asare intimated that the action of the Judge is a dangerous assault on Press Freedom and a breach of the 1992 constitution, hence it will petition the acting Chief Justice for the matter to be addressed.

“…It’s unprecedented and again a breach of the 1992 constitution which guides our country. We do know that Article 162, 163, 164 of the 1992 constitution guarantees the freedom of the Press and so we think that it’s necessary that we petition the Acting Chief Justice and also the President of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana so that he pick up those issues and draw the attention of the Judge in question and also to ensure that an unqualified apology is rendered to the Press and they’re given immediate access to the court at the next sitting which is set for 29th June, 2017.”
