President Nana Akufo-Addo has been commended for deciding to mark his six months in office with a media encounter on Tuesday.
According to Head of the Communications Department of the University of Cape Coast, Dr Eric Opoku Mensah, the move is in the right direction as it will deepen Ghana’s democracy.
Dr. Opoku Mensah was speaking Monday on Adom fm’s Burning Issues programme hosted by Afia Pokua ahead of the event scheduled to take place at the Flagstaff House in Accra.
The President hopes to use the media encounter to render an account of his stewardship within the past six months.

“Some former presidents had their media encounters one year in office but it’s laudable for the president to engage the media within six months,” Dr. Opoku Mensah said.
He stated that the encounter will make the masses feel part of the governance system.
President Akufo-Addo is expected to touch on security, illegal mining, the economy, the National Health Insurance (NHIS), infrastructure, education, good governance among others.
Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid, has said the President sees the media interaction as a democratic requirement.
He said the President will use the event to solicit for ideas, suggestions and constructive criticisms that would smoothen the rough edges of his vision for Ghana.
He recognises that he is a human being and, thus, he is not perfect and, therefore, once a while you meet with the people to give you ideas and make suggestions, the Information Minister said.
Dr Eric Opoku Mensah says other Presidents that will come after Nana Akufo-Addo should emulate same or even engage the media after one month in office.
