The national anti-galamey taskforce has set on fire, six excavators it seized in its massive clampdown on illegal mining.

The earth-moving equipment of at least 22tons each was doused early Tuesday morning in Bamso and Kwabeng in the Eastern Region.

Joy News Eastern Regional correspondent Kofi Siaw explained, a contingent of the 400-strong taskforce stormed some mining sites and confiscated the equipment early Tuesday morning.

The burning of excavators is contrary to the Minerals and Mining Act 2015. Section 99 details of the Offences and Penalties state that seized equipment must be kept in the custody of the police.
