Cassava Virus

The country director for West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE), Dr. Allen Oppong has urged Cassava Farmers and Ministry of Agriculture as well as the government to prevent a Cassava disease called “Cassava Brown Streak Virus” which is destroying Cassava from our neighboring countries to not enter our country.

“It’s better we protect and prevent the said disease not to enter the country (Ghana) because it’s very dangerous in nature”. He stated.

He added that, it’s better to prevent it than putting in measures to treat during it epidemic state.

The Research Scientist and country director for “WAVE”, Mr. Allen Oppong made this statement in an interview with the media at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District in the Eastern Region.

The educative program was organized to educate Cassava Farmers in five (5) districts of the Eastern Region which includes Yilo Krobo, Lower Manya, Upper Manya, Asuogyaman and Akuapem North districts was organized by “CSRI”, “MoFA”, “CRI” and WAVE-GHANA.
