The National youth organiser of the Opposition National Democratic Congress NDC, Mr. Sidii Abubakar has indicated that, the rulling New Patriotic Party (NPP) invented the habit of insults in Ghanaian democracy.
Reacting to the arrest of Mr. Appaih Stadium, an NDC serial caller in the Ashanti Region for insulting the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo- Addo referring him as a ‘wee smoker’, Mr. Sidii said, insults in politics were brought by the NPP then in opposition and nothing was done against them, so there is nothing wrong if Appiah Staduim should insult the President.
According to him, the NPP then in opposition insulted the former President John Dramani Mahama and his appointtees on several occasions but nothing was done to them, so the NPP shouldn’t resist the freedom of speech by the NDC communicators.
In an interview on Radio 1 breakfast show, ‘’Susubribi’’ with host Captain Kofi Owusu, Mr. Abubakar said, the NDC will resist every attempt of intimidation by the NPP government, to prevent them from their freedom of speech.

‘’I cannot insult an Elderly person though, because my tradition is against it, but in this time of our political era, it isn’t surprising when someone should insult a political personnality, because the NPP then in opposition invented the habit of insult into our political system and insulted former president, John Mahama and his appointtees on several occussions but nothing was done to them, so why should they arrest someone for insulting the president, ‘are they too special than the NDC?’ he asked.
Meanwhile, Mr Abubakar added that, they could have march to the scene to recue him if he was not released.
‘’If the NPP try to resist our freedom of speech there wouldn’t be any peace in this country.’’ he lamented.
