Protect natural resources – Hammah

A formal Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mike Hammah, has called on the government to be proactive in instituting measures to protect Ghana’s boundaries as far as the natural resources are concerned.

According to him, it is necessary that this is done to avoid litigations such as the just ended maritime boundary dispute between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire at the Special Chamber of the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).

ITLOS on Saturday, September 26 ruled in favour of Ghana as far as the maritime boundary dispute between the two countries was concerned.

The Chamber ruled unanimously that Ghana did not violate the rights of Cote d’Ivoire in exploring oil at the maritime boundary.

Commenting on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, September 26 Mr Hammah said: “As a country, we also need to look at the eastern boundary and now what we really have in terms of the oil boundary.

“We should be proactive to solve the problems that are likely to come. We have all it takes to make sure we protect our natural resources.”
