Despite the fight against gallamsey, some illegal miners who are bent on overlooking the fight by the president Nana Addo and the minister of lands and natural resources Hon. Peter Amewu, some residents in the Brong-Ahafo Region have been involved in a tragic accident leaving one Nigerian dead and several others trapped in the pit in Ntotroso a farming community in the Asutifi North District in the Brong-Ahafo region.
Speaking in an interview with the District Police Commander, DSP Teddy Damptey Brown indicated that, the police got the report last Sunday and tried to rescue the situation with the help of some residents.
DSP Teddy however recounted that the illegal miners got an alarm about their visit and fled from the scene leaving the lifeless body of Christian the deceased there with the rest of their colleagues trapped in the pit.
The police were up to task and managed to arrest three illegal miners who were found on the scene. The arrested galamseyers are currently been held at Kenyasi awaiting further action.

DSP Teddy Damptey was quick to add that the illegal miners have resorted to mining at night due to the daily activities of “Operation Vanguard” and some police patrols. Not only that but they also have powerful informants who give valuable information’s about the police operation details to them.
The District Chief Executive of the area Hon. Agyei Mensah indicated that the quest for quick riches is a motivating factor for the increase in Galamsey despite all efforts by government to curb the menace.
