Former DCE for Gomoa West in the Central region Hon. Theophilous Aidoo Mensah has described as wrong and too hash to order all Assemblies in the three Northern regions to pay fixed amount of GHC 5,000 to finance the 7 days visit of the President Nana Addo.
Hon. Theophilous Aidoo Mensah who was the DCE from 2009 to 2017 January 6, says there was not a single day an order was given him to pay certain amount for president’s visit in his region and he don’t understand why something of such should happen in the three Northern region.
”Been the DCE and also the former President for the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) from 2009 to 2011, the particular Districts the president will visit in the region have a role to play in terms of financing, and it becomes the burden on that particular Assembly.” he stated.
President Nana Akufo-Addo will from October 2 to October 8, embark on a 7-day tour of the three Northern regions, as part of his tour of the country. He will begin his tour with a 2-day visit to the Upper West Region, where, he will on Monday, inspect and commission the Wa Water Supply Project. He will later, in the day, meet with the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, in Wa.
The President will round off his tour of the Upper West Region with visits to Lawra, Nandom, Sissala and Tumu, where he will interact with the Chiefs and people of these towns.
But a letter purported to be from the Northern Regional Coordinating Council has directed the 26 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region to contribute GHS5,000 each to help fund a seven-day tour of President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo in that part of the country.
The letter giving the directive is dated Friday, September 29 and signed by Chief Director Alhassan Issahaku.
It gave the assemblies up to Monday, 2 October to bring their contributions.
The letter explained that the contributions are being taken to put together the required arrangements for a successful tour of the president from October 2 and 8, 2017.
Meanwhile, Hon. Theophilous Aidoo Mensah has described the directives as an unfortunate.
