The Fulani community in Ghana is angry that their image is constantly vilified in the media for the wrong reasons and their names being associated with atrocities like rape, killing, arm robbery despite among other societal ills.

The National Chairman of Fulanis in Ghana, Alhaji Mohammed Bingle said are not happy that their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country has been totally neglected.

His comment comes following renewed clashes between the Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the Kwahu East district.

Nine people including indigenes and Fulani herdsmen were killed and many injured. Due to this clash, many residents at Dwibease, Dwerebeafe have fled to Wheewhee for fear of being killed.

The renewed destruction of farms by nomadic herdsmen in the Eastern Region has prompted calls for the revival of the Operation Cow Leg taskforce.

The task force is to deal with nomadic herdsmen who entered the Eastern Region illegally with their herds of cattle, and sheep destroying farms.

But Alhaji Bingle on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday described the bad name created for them as unfortunate.

He revealed that, majority of the Fulani herdsmen were received by the chiefs in the area and not illegal settlers as it is being portrayed.

The Fulani chief was also disenchanted about the stereotyping of Fulanis when a member of the Fulani community commits a crime.

The only solution to the problem, Alhaji Bingle stressed is for the chiefs to allocate lands to the Fulani herdsmen to prevent their cattle from destroying farms.

He also called for truce, dialogue and peaceful co-existence with their compatriots in Kwahu and other parts of the country.

Alhaji Bingle appealed to President Akufo-Addo to take immediate and effective steps to bring to an end the state of hostilities between Fulanis in Ghana.
