The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako Jr., has expressed joy with the naming of former Attorney General Martin Amidu as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor and danced to the news on live TV when he appeared on Multi TV’s news analysis programme News File on Saturday, 13 January 2017.

According to the veteran journalist, Mr Amidu “is fit for purpose”.

Expressing his excitement, Mr Baako told show host Samson Lardy Ayenini that: “I’m tempted to stand up and dance in support of his appointment” – which he did. “He [Amidu] is just fit for purpose,” Mr Baako added.

“I have had some discussions with people in the NPP who are not very enthused about it. As for our NDC friends, I’ve heard many publicly condemning it. Some are looking at the man and saying: ‘This man is unpredictable, this man is too temperamental, he’s an emotional landmine, he’s difficult to control’, and I say: ‘Well, perhaps, that’s why he’s fit for purpose’,” he added.

This is not the first time Mr Baako has danced in support of a decision by the state. In November 2016, he danced in the studio of Accra-based Peace FM when the Supreme Court granted Mr Amidu the permission to orally examine Ghanaian businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, over the wrongful payment of GHS51.2 million to him in judgment debt.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo named Mr Amidu as the Special Prosecutor on Thursday, 11 January 2018.

The Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, nominated Mr Amidu and his nomination was accepted by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr Amidu will carry out the extraordinary responsibility of independently fighting corruption.

He will have the full authority to initiate investigations into all suspected corruption-related offences of all persons in public service.
