This comes in the wake of an announcement in some parts of Accra that traders and residents should be indoors before 7:30pm on Monday.

It is unclear who sanctioned the announcement but an out-broadcast van was seen in areas such as Mamprobi and Accra Central making the announcement during the day.

But speaking on TV3‘s News 360 on Monday, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, who is the Director of Operations for the Accra Regional Police Command, said no curfew has been imposed in Accra.

He said all traditional leaders in Ga Mashie and surrounding areas contacted by the police have denied knowledge of any announcement of a curfew.

Chief Supt Kwesi Ofori said the country is governed by law and order and so no individual or group can impose a curfew in the country.

He explained that all curfews emanate from the Ministry of Interior and so the announcement should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

‘False alarm’

Chief Supt. Kwesi Ofori said the case may be one of “false alarm” and so should be ignored by the public.

As a result of the announcement, 3news.com gathers many traders closed their shops early on Monday.

Residents also had to stay indoors after 7:00pm in wait of what may have triggered the announcement.
