Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG), is 80 years, which is unarguably, one of the ‘grandpas’ among various research Institutes in the country if not the ‘great grandpa’ in the Nation.
Celebrating its birthday under the theme “INNOVATIVE RESEARCH FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT” in a grand style, with 17 sponsors. The program took place at the Forecourt of the E.J. Asomaning Building inside CRIG compound at Akyem Tafo in the Eastern Region.
Present were the Eastern regional minister, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darffour representing the President and the MP for Abuakwah North, a speech was read by Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo on behalf of the Agric minister. Mr Kwadwo Kissiedu Sarpong also represented Mr Hackman Owusu Agyeman. Chiefs, Singing groups, cultural groups, Cocoa farmers and Cocoa buyers also graced the occasion
Speaking at the Program, the Chairman of CRIG Management Board, Dr Franklin Amoah gave the gathering a brief history of the Institution. “After 80 years, CRIG has developed technology in its operation, built Cocoa flavor laboratory which is first in Africa. It has learning centers which has trained a lot of ghana natives and foreigners.”

Not withstanding all these achievements we lack well equipped laboratory facilities, personnel , and the roads leading to Cocoa Farms are in their deplorable state. Other natural factors are Climatic change and not getting farmers to use the approved Pesticides.Dr. Amoah eloborated
Dr. Amoah used the opportunity to appeal to the government and all stakeholders involved to come to their aid and help remedy the challenges confronting them.
