NADMO Issues Flood Alert For Residents Near Birim River

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has cautioned residents living near the Birim river’s to relocate to higher grounds to avoid a possible disaster.

Alfred Owiredu Agyemang, the Eastern Regional NADMO Operations Director, who spoke to Citi News, said they had not recorded any casualty.

He, however, adviced residents residing along the Birim river to relocate to higher grounds to avoid possible death’s.

“We cannot tell what can happen. We have been very fortunate [so far],” he said.

Mr. Owiredu Agyemang also said other districts could also be affected as the level of rivers continues to rise.

Dozens of residents in communities along the Atewa District have been stuck in their homes for about three days following a downpour which has caused river Birim to overflow its banks.

Other rivers such as river Jejeti, Akukuo and Sae have also overflowed their banks cutting off linking roads in all the communities.

The Abomosu Community have been entirely cut off by the flood with other communities such as Asunafo, Nkrukan, Amonom, Mouso, Jejeti and Osinase Krobomu also been affected.

This situation has brought both social and economic activities to a halt in the affected communities.
