An aspiring National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Baba Jamal, has predicted a one-touch victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 general election, no matter who is elected as the NDCs flag bearer for the polls.

He said he based his prediction on what he claimed to be the NPP’s dismal performance since the party assumed the reins of government on January 7, 2017.

Addressing a news conference at Akwatia last Tuesday, Alhaji Baba Jamal said “the very day I am elected the NDC’s National Organiser, the NPP government should start packing bag and baggage because that will spell the ruling party’s doom”.

He, therefore, appealed to the NDC supporters nationwide to elect him as the party’s national organiser in October 2020 in order to achieve his ambition.

Mismanaging economy
According to Alhaji Baba Jamal, the NDC government could effectively administer the country with 88 ministers but the NPP, with a huge number of 110 ministers, was mismanaging the economy, thereby bringing untold hardships to the masses.

He said when the NPP was in opposition, its leading members described the NDC, which was then in power as incompetent, stressing that the NPP had proven beyond doubt that it was not better.

Alhaji Baba Jamal, who was Deputy Minister for four ministries, described the ban on small-scale mining which had brought economic hardships to a section of the population, as discriminatory as he claimed that the government had encouraged Chinese and other foreign nationals to mine gold at the expense of Ghanaians.

He alleged that before the NDC lost power to the NPP, a gallon of petrol was selling at GH¢14 but it’s currently being sold for GH¢23.

Double track

Alhaji Baba Jamal claimed that the double track system being introduced by the NPP government in senior high schools this academic year was a shift system in disguise, which would lower educational standards and promote truancy and indiscipline in the educational system .

According to him, all the development projects being undertaken at Akwatia in particular and Denkyembour District in general were all initiated by him, and thus threw a challenge to the NPP to react to his claim.

When asked by journalists to assess his chances in the upcoming NDC national elections in October 2018, he said he would beat the five other aspirants and spearhead the NDC’s campaign to win election 2020 in a resounding manner.
