Brighten The Corner Where You Are; Okyenhemaa Launches “Okyeman Women Empowerment Group”

The Okyenhemaa of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua on Wednesday 22nd August, 2018 launched a women empowerment group for the women in the Akyem Abuakwa area.

She called the group “Okyeman Women Empowerment,” with the slogan “Brighten the corner where you are”.

This initiative is part of the programs of the 75th anniversary of the late Amantiremanmienu Nana Ofori Atta I, during the Women Empowerment Program at the Ofori Panin Fie at Kyebi.

The occasion saw a lot of queen mothers from the various communities in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area. It was masked by various talks on women empowerment, financial breakthrough, women in modern Agriculture and women’s health with regards to Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Physiotherapy.

The women were also given the opportunity to put before the Queen mother their needs, wants and challenges. The common amongst them were financial constraints despite their eagerness to engage in farming. Again, some revealed lack of jobs and job opportunities are crippling them even as they hail from farming communities.

Based on these concerns, Nana Dokua asked the women to form cooperatives then after, Resource personnel would be implored to help address the issues.

Nana Dokua took the advantage to launch her initiative to inculcate into the women the need to work and support the family, the need for the women especially the queen mothers to go all out to initiate moves at keeping their communities clean and eradicate dirt from Akyem Abuakwa.

The occasion was also met with free health insurance registration for women and children, who they called the vulnerable.

The program continues today as the Paramount Chief of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will grace the grand durbar as the Special Guest. However, many dignitaries within government and opposition will make it there. Radio 1 News is always there to give you updates.
