Flagbearer hopeful of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has vowed to provide “limitless opportunities for Persons With Disabilities” under his Presidency.

According to him, he’ll ensure that the needed reforms in the social and governance structure are carried out to the letter in order to improve the lots of PWDs.

Bagbin who also doubles as the Second Deputy Speaker has made the headlines for allegedly making some unsavoury comments about some appointments made by former President Mahama that ostensibly hindered the orderly progress of their 2016 campaigns and subsequent defeat in the last polls.

Among others, he had said that the former President’s appointment of Dr. Seidu Danaa, a visually challenged man, as the Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs was a decision that had courted hatred for the NDC from Ghanaian chiefs, since in Ghanaian tradition, chiefs are not allowed to deal with visually impaired persons.

Hon. Bagbin also observed that Dr. Danaa was a respectable and learned person who could have fitted into any other Ministry, apart from the Chieftaincy Ministry, since his appointment went against Ghanaian culture.

He added that even though President Mahama meant well, the appointment of Dr. Danaa had ended up courting anger among the chiefs for the NDC government, which contributed greatly to the unprecedented defeat of the NDC in 2016.

Addressing a Press Conference in Accra, Mr Bagbin said in his political life and public service he’s had endless affection for the marginalized insisting he won’t under no circumstance undermine the capabilities of People living with Disabilities.

He however noted that he has taken a cue from the barrage of criticisms against him in the last few days and will right the wrongs as a leader.

“As a Leader, I take full responsibility for this situation and the impressions created. I have reflected deeply on all the comments coming from across a large section of the public and I have drawn relevant lessons from them. I want to assure the NDC and the good people of Ghana that my unflinching support for inclusive governance, a key part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is never in doubt”, he noted to the applause of the NDC supporters gathered at the event.
