A former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah has advised the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho to withdraw his bid to contest current General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah.

According to him, Mr Nketiah popularly known as General Mosquito is not to blame for the NDC’s loss in the 2016 General Elections and must be allowed to retain his role uncontested as General Secretary of the opposition party.

Mr Dzirasah insists that Anyidoho will only be ‘ripe’ to succeed General Mosquito after the latter serves another four years in the role.

“The defeat of the NDC cannot be ascribable to the poor performance of General Mosquito (Mr Nketiah) because I followed up his performance and how he managed the secretariat,” Mr Dzirasah said in an interview with Joy FM.

“My plea is to my young good friend (Anyidoho), that he still has a long period to grow and that I am confident that after this four years of an additional tenure for General Mosquito he would have been more than ripe to assume the position that he is aspiring for now.

“So, he should allow General Mosquito to go probably uncontested so that we can continue from what we have gone through and not split hairs of who becomes the chair of the secretariat,” the former South Tongu MP advised.

Mahama must discipline his followers

Mr Dzirasah who has openly declared his support for Professor Joshua Alabi in the NDC flagbearer race also reiterated calls for former President John Mahama to pull out of that race.

He said Mahama would be humiliated if he was to lose the NDC flagbearer slot to any of his former appointees.

Mr Dzirasah also advised Mahama to reign-in his followers from abusing his critics to avoid further dividing the party.

He stated: “The proper thing to do for my brother John is to bring order and discipline within his fellowship. The more they insult, the more they are alienating prospective supporters of him from following him”.
