Dr Ziddah Peter, the Head of Fish Health Unit at the Fisheries Commission in Ghana has advised all fish farmers and those with intentions to operate Fish Farming to consult the Fisheries Commission for Technical Advise before setting up the Investment.
He disclosed this on Saturday, October 20, 2018 on the ISSUES, a Political Show Program on Radio1 FM when the host of the show, Owurakou Asamoah asked of updates on the sudden death of tonnes of Tilapia in Asutuare in the Shai Osidoku District in the Greater Accra Region.
He admitted there has been massive death of these Tilapia as reported in the media but as to the cause of the killing is yet to know since autopsy is ongoing at the lab. However, they pray that the suspcted Tilapia disease would be false; Tilapia Lake Disease. Tilapia Lake Disease is not yet in the country and therefore pray it turns out negative.
He urged Ghanaians not to panick since the Tilapia from Asutuare farm is not in the Market. Also he rebuffed the circulations that the Tilapia are Genetically Modified Organisms, and said the farm has been in existence for about 10years and Ghanaians should stop speculating falsehoods.
