Stephen Ayensu, a former Communication Director for the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, in the Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, who is also the special aide to the Member of Parliament (MP) for same Constituency, Hon. Opare Ansah, has advised the president of the republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ignore the bigwigs of the party who he termed as Political Godfathers of the Party and make provisions to electing the Metropolitan, Municipal & District Chief Executives since these Political Godfathers cannot and do not know who a loyal party member is.

According to Mr Ayensu, Political Godfathers are doing a lot of harm than good to the governance of this country.

“Godfathers of the various political parties are doing a lot bad than good to the governance of the country because they nominate people who are not qualified to be Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES)”, he said.

He made this revelation on “the ISSUES, a Political Show on Radio1FM 100.7MHZ on Saturday October 6, 2018 when the host of the show, Owurakou Asamoah asked of his opinion on the election of the MMDCE’s in a reaction to  the incumbent General Secretary of the NPP , John Boadu’s statement that there are some ranks and files in the party that oppose the election of the MMDCE’s.

According to John Boadu, the so called Godfathers of the party believe nominating the MMDCE’s are forms of appreciation to the longer serving party members.

But Mr Ayensu who objected to that notion said, the godfathers of the parties cannot determine a loyal person for the constituency so it would be better if the grassroots elect their own representatives.

He believes that putting the power in the hands of the grassroots is the best because some the MMDCEs nominated by the godfathers do not respect and identify the hard works of the grassroots that eventually brought the party to power therefore electing them would bring sanity, respect, accountability and judicious work ethics in the country.
