The former minister for trade and industry, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah has said if he was able to influence Ghanaians to accept the Value Added Tax in 18 months with his committee in 1998 under former president Jerry John Rawlings’ administration as a minister of communication, then he can also convince Ghanaians again to vote for the National Democratic Congress NDC, come 2020 General election if they make him the flagbearer.

Dr. Spio Gabrah made this known on Radio1fm 100.7HMZ Susubiribi morning on Thursday 18th October 2018.

According to Spio, the National Democratic Congress NDC as a party needs someone who can re-brand it and change Ghanaians mindset about the numerous allegations tag of  corruptions which was the main reason they lost election in 2016 so he believes he is in the capacity to do that.

He said, Due to NPP’s numerous demonstrations in 1995, the value added Tax were suspended but in 1998 when he was given the responsibility to reintroduce the tax policy he was able to educate Ghanaians on the benefit of the policy and accepted it till now. However he urged the delegates to consider him for the flagbearership race.

He concluded that convincing Ghanaians is not the work of a lawyer, Doctor, Pharmacist neither is it the work of accountant rather is the work of a person with a classical experience in communication, branding and advertising which he has been practicing since he was 21 years.

The Opposition National Democratic Congress will be going to the polls in December to elect their flagbearer for the 2020 general election. So far about 13 members of the party have shown interest including the former President, John Dramani Mahama.
