Police Refutes NPP Chairman’s Robbery claims; Accuse him of Reckless Driving

Police in the Central region has described as false, claims by 1st Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency that some police personnel robbed him at gunpoint.
Rather, the police say the patrol team in Nissan Hardbody, with the registration number GP 4348 had stopped him at Kasoa-Obom road for driving recklessly.
Chairman Darkwa accused the police of robbing him at gunpoint after they took away his white Daewoo Matiz car with registration number GW 1808-13 and an undisclosed amount of money.
Chairman Darkwa as he is popularly called, who is also a spare-parts dealer at Abossey Okai wondered why the police who are supposed to ensure law would engage in such an act.

But the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Oppong on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Thursday said, preliminary investigations show that what happened wasn’t a robbery case.
She said the preliminary facts so far reveal that Chairman Darkwa was driving “recklessly” and refused to stop when the police signaled him to do so.
The Central Region Police PRO said since Mr. Darkwa who is now a suspect allegedly resisted arrest, the police had no option than to take his car as an exhibit.
DSP Irene Oppong, however, assured transparent investigations into the matter to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
“We can assure Mr. Darkwa that we will not shield anybody. if the police are found guilty, they would be punished,” she assured.
