A Political Science Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, GIMPA, Dr. Emmanuel Osei Acheampong has said the major Opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC at the moment needs to rebrand a new person, nurture him for the 2020 general election instead of  bringing former president John Dramani Mahama.

He said this on Radio 1FM’s Morning Show today, October 2, 2018 when the morning show host, Captain Kofi Owusu asked his views or opinion on the NDC flagbearership race where Ex-President John Dramani Mahama is an aspirant.

“What the National Democratic Congress needs is rebranding a new person, adequately nurturing him for the 2020 Polls”, Dr Osei said.

According to Dr Osei, Mahama’s brand has reached its declining stage and it will be difficult for him to re -market his brand again. “I would have advised Mahama not to contest again if I were close to him”, He added.

That notwithstanding, he wouldn’t be surprised if Kojo Bonsu rescinds his decision and steps down for Mahama.

Apparently, 12 candidates are jostling for the slot and at the end of the congress somewhere in December, only one aspirant would emerge as a winner and subsequently becomes the flagbearer of the party.

The 12 aspirants of which counting is still ongoing include; Nadowli-Kaleo, Member of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingford Bagbin, former university professor, Joshua Alabi, former trade minister Dr. Ekow spio Grabrah, former CEO of national health insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah.

Others include former Dept. finance minister and MP for Cape Coast South Hon. kweku Rickets Hagan, returnee Goosie Tano, Business man Iddrisu, legal practitioner Elikplim Agbemara, self-styled Electrician Stephen Atubiga and Kojo Bonsu, “Mahama’s boy”, former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, Boss, joined the race.
