E/R: Okyenhene, Samira Bawumia To Grace Blue Skies’ School Farm competition’s 5th Annual Awards

The Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II together with the second Lady of our land, Hajia Mrs Samira Bawumia among other dignitaries are expected to grace an all important  Blue Skies school farm competition Awards in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital on the 30th November 2018 at the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT Hall.

This program will be the  5th annual awards in the Competition spearheaded by Blue Skies Company as far as the Competition is concerned.

Speaking to Radio1 News, The Public Relation Officer of Blue Skies, Mr. Alistair  Djimatey said this year’s awards is seeking to fly Students and teachers who will emerge as winners in the competition abroad to expose them to what agriculture can bring to us in our local economy.

According to the PRO, 30th November would be a day to award schools involved in the year’s competition.

He also said there are going to be various categories of Awards some of which will include the best school of the year in the competition, best female and male farmers and other personalities as well. He said the school that will emerge as winners will be given computers and other equipments and farm tools that will aid them in agriculture as well.

The Blue Skies school farm competition is annual inter school competition organized by Blue Skies for Basic and Senior high schools where schools are given the opportunity to grow vegetables and award them base on their performance and their understanding of what they have done. The whole idea of this competition is to introduce agriculture to the young generation and it would be attended by dignitaries like Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Payin II, The Second lady of Ghana, Hajia Samira Bawumia, Models and artist who have interest in Agriculture.

 

He also revealed that there is a committee composed of representatives from Ghana Education Service, (GES), Ministry of Food & Agriculture, (MoFA), qualified agronomists and Blue Skies Product Ghana Limited to monitor the project as it progresses. They evaluate and assess each school. Schools with high points win and vice versa. The best 3 schools are fished out and awarded.

 

Krobo Girls are the defending Champions for 2017 competition with YIKROSEC and Methodist Girls placing second and third respectively.

 

Mr Djimatey said this year’s competition is so encouraging and exciting and was not ready to show any preference.

However, he called for support from any organization ready to help ignite in the youth; the need to see the opportunities in Agriculture to show up, all in the interest of the future of the nation.

 

Blue Skies Company is one of the largest fruit juice producing companies in Ghana and they have been undergoing this project entitled Blue Skies School farm competition for basic schools and Senior High Schools
