The youth in Akyem Kwabeng in the Atiwa west district have revealed that their decisions not to engage into cocoa farming is as a result of they not seeing cocoa farming as a lucrative venture.

According to those who spoke with Radio 1 News, lack ofcapital, poor road access, and the overwhelming ignoring the farmers are the basic reasons they stick to doing other jobs than the traditional work.

The youth however believe that the returns for their toils are not equivalent to their suffering but hawking and other menial jobs provide them with their needs in immediacy. While others think lack of capital are the major reason they are abandoning the cocoa business, the youth say it’s a hectic task one goes through and even at times has to wait for years before being successful.
