E/R: About 312 acres of Cocoa Farms To Be Destroyed

News gathered by Radio 1 news indicates that, about 312 acres of Cocoa farms at Akyem Juaso in the Fanteakwa South district in the Eastern region are going to be destroyed by mining activities anytime soon.

A visit to the area by Radio one news revealed that, prospecting have been done by the miners in about  300acres of Cocoa farmlands which means there is gold in the Land and with that the farm will definitely be destroyed for mining.

In an interview with one of the Cocoa farmers, Mr Solomon Bio, he stressed that, the miners came around to survey the farmlands without telling the farm owners anything.

“About 300acres of Cocoa farms are in the pipeline of being uprooted, a mining company came yesterday to survey the land and they have confirmed it is rich in gold so they will in no time come and destroy them all. now they’ve come to measure all just yesterday in which they will come and destroy it for mining. It is this Cocoa that we benefit from as it is our biggest resources and here comes the mining companies taking over and destroying it, where else are we going or what are we achieving in the near future.”- he asked.

He then appealed to government to find alternative way to deal with mining activities in the Cocoa farmlands and communities especially Akyem Juaso.

” We will plead with the government if he is the one given out concessions to this miners, he should divert from the act and find a lasting solution to this situation.” he appealed.

Mr. Solomon Bio further stated that, there is another12acres of Cocoa farmlands in which the miners have done prospecting which willalso be destroyed soon so in total about 312 cocoa farms will be destroyed.By:
