The member of Parliament, MP for Zabzugu Constituency in the Northern Region, Hon. Alhassan Umar who doubles as the member of the parliamentary select committee on health has waded into the controversy surrounding the contract of drones and has said accepting the drones is simply as just dashing money to the foreign agent.

He said Ghana does not need drones now especially as to transport only blood which he said it’s just waste of money and the nation’s resources.

In a phone interview with the host of Susubiribi Morning Show, Captain Kofi Wusu, on the 12th of December, 2018, Hon. Alhassan said it’s just unfortunate for the nation to take such decision when there are other issues to attend to.

According to him, the drones are specifically targeting the transport of blood to Afram plains in the Eastern region and other places that would need blood in immediacy. He added that these drones can not transport blood that weigh over 2kg.

However, he believes they should have rather resorted to equipping the health sector from the CHIPS compounds to the Hospitals, provide the necessary resources for these hospitals.

Other school of thoughts also believe there are other critical issues in the health sector other than the blood issues even as Ghana Medical Association has petitioned government to suspent its implementation. Meanwhile, the contract worth $12m received massive endorsement from the parliamentarians yesterday to effect its prompt implementation.
