A dissatisfied cocoa buyer who works at the Produce Buying Division, a subsidiary for the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board (G.C.M.B), as a Cocoa buyer at Adukrom in the Abuakwa South Municipality in the Eastern Region has said that it would be of a great help if the government takes it upon himself to pay him as government cocoa buyer and not based on conditions.
He said his salary is based on the quantity of cocoa he buys from the farmers for his mother company. The more cocoa he buys the higher the salary he is paid.
Mr Isaac, the cocoa buyer made this known to Radio1 News team who visited Adukrom to find out the challenges cocoa buyers face in the community.
According to him as a cocoa buyer for government, they are paid based on conditions hence making life difficult for them as they have family to take care of as well.

He again said most of the cocoa farmers now prefer to sell their cocoa beans to the private buyers instead of the government buyers due to more bonuses they gain which is GHC 20 compared to the GHC 5 when they sell it to the government buyers so he believes that if government increases the bonus margin, it’s will motivate them to sell their cocoa beans to the government buyers.
However he urged government to at least pay them well and employ them as permanent employees.
